Loving this Weather (not.)

With the amount of time I have on my hands recently, I should really be posting here more often at the moment. Fact is, this heat we've been getting has sucked most of the energy out of me. But the sun has also made my eczema flare up big time again, and I've ended up with this syrisis (I spent about half an hour trying to find the right spelling with no success) stuff, which basically means I'm smothered in horrible little spots, and my skin is all peel-y and crusty. The doctor gave me a cream to put on 3 times a day, a Ointment (that is like thick glue) to rub in once a day, a body wash, a shampoo, and a scalp application for it. Good thing we don't have to pay for this stuff. Of course you all wanted to know this, but at least I've drawn how I look, rather than posting up photos of my lovely skin.

I've discovered now that I seem to draw at my best around 10-12 at night, which when I did this. To counter the ugliness, I also drew another piece of fan art of Arle from the Puyo Puyo games, which I've been playing a lot recently. Coloured pencils rubbed in with a wet tongue is much quicker and more fun than Photoshop. I'm also trying to make it a habit to draw any fan art in my own style, rather than anime style, which I'm really trying to rub out of my habits, even anime girls like this one.
I'll try to post more from now on, promise! Until then, here's a picture of a monkey hugging a dog for you.

Doodle Vomiting II

I was up last night doodle vomiting again. Here's what I found amongst all the carrots that always seem to appear in it. I started by drawing a bunch of odd poses of Parappa the Rapper (From an old Playstation game), because a picture of him was lying on my desk. I like the top left corner one best, which was ironically the first.

This made me want to raw some more original characters. Nothing really special here, but I will adapt the Punch line thing for the new Tea N Crumpets design.

Running out of ideas, I went back to some old drawings for inspiration and decided to re-design my characters for a Whack-a-mole style video game I made up once called BishBashBosh. Their weird little creatures wth big teeth and red rubber gloves on their heads. Harry legs is a drawing interpretation of a character I used to act out with my hands and my glasses. Yes, I used to amuse myself by pretending my hands were cartoon characters I made up when I was a kid.

Moving on, Treemor on this page is another old character of mine (from around 1997-98), although he really didn't have much to go by other than being on roller blades. He was originally an Egg, but I've decided to make him a potato instead, and in these doodles came up with an idea of him falling in love with a chip (AKA a French Fry for you lot in the US). The twist would be that the chip was actually cut from Treemor himself. His name is Treemor because he lives in a tree.

Also on this page is an idea for a short starring a little tank that is controlled to fight a war. The solider guy would sneak him, open up his head like a tin opener, pull out his brain and the Tank would become a war machine. As you could tell, this would be a more serious short, with an anti-war message. That's your lot for now.

Kingdom Hearts 2 scares me.

Am I the only person that finds this clip utterly disturbing? It's the massively hyped sequel to the already bizarre Square/Disney crossover game Kingdom Hearts, only now you have a level that appears to be set within the Black & White Mickey shorts of yore. Seeing this mental battle involving a lot of fireworks, odd sci-fi sound effects, extremely repetitive voices , and fighting moves straight out of an anime in the middle of this setting really freaks me out, especially because it goes on like this for EIGHT MINUTES. Oh, and Chicken Little seems to be in there for some reason. Maybe it's just me. Oh well, it could have been worse, they could have done this to the Skeleton Dance, one of my favorite cartoons of that era. Please tell me they haven’t.

Tea N Crumpets - Updated at last!

I've been putting it off for months now, but seeing as I got my coursework back (which included all the concept art for Traffk), I finally kicked my arse into gear and spent the last few hours working on a major update to Tea N Crumpets. Here's a list of the things I've changed:
  • Added Traffk to the Animation > Feature section. Includes a Animatic and gallery.
  • Added descriptions to the galleries in the Animation > Feature section.
  • Re-hosted some of the animations (such as the Fujis and JehJeh), so they are now streamed from Youtube/Veoh.
  • Added the 2006 Showreel, and made a link to the 2005, both streamed from Veoh.
  • Updated the Photoshop, Sketch and Misc sections of the Illustration page.
  • Updated the Information page.
  • Replaced the un-used desktop section with a link to this here Blog.
  • Moved the RadioBlog from the Desktop section to here (see the sidebar)
  • Added a small extra to the index page.
Also, I have plans to update again when August the 8th arrives. Why August the 8th? Because on that day Tea N Crumpets will have been online for a whole yonk! I mean a whole year! Yay!

Game Over

This is fantastic. Retro Videos games re-created in stop-motion using muffins, pizza, cakes, flowers, toy cars, watches, sweets and countless other everyday objects. I had an idea in my head of doing something a bit like this for ages, but someone beat me to it. Very well excuted.

EDIT: How did I not notice this before? It's only made by one of my favorite stop-motions animators, PES! Check out his website, he has done a lot of films like this one above, including one involving Sofa's having sex. I'm not joking. There are even making of's on there. Go, go!

Tin Toys!

Got my Uni results for the first year of the course at last! Managed to get 68%, which aren’t half bad when they tell me that barely anyone gets more than 70%. Huzzah! Popped out to Basildon to visit our favourite Chinese buffet place, Aroma, then shopped a bit, and in the Works I came across this rather lovely book for 7 quid:

352 pages of full-colour photos of Japanese Tin Toys! Hells yes! I've loved these things ever since I saw a exhibit of them at Epcot. Here's evidence:

RARR. Anyway, yes, Tin Toys rock, and so does this book which has loads of them, and at £7 it was a steal. I personally only own one Tin Toy for my own: it's Bender from Futurama in a Pink too-too complete with a cigar that only cost me 2 at a boot sale boxed like new. I still find these things mighty inspiring though, especially the robot ones. They have such a quirky charm. Even more inspiring is the artwork on the boxes they came in, which unfortunately this books doesn't have many of, but I have a photo her of a load from the Epcot exhibit:

And here's some more photos for fun.

Just a little while ago a doodled some of my favorites from the book.
