Tuke makes Afro Lady Proud

Afro Lady for Gagaman final by ~bluesonnet on deviantART

My mate Tuke has finished off this stunning piece of Afro Lady art just today. It inspires me to draw her again, I can't remember the last time I did. The art also features some characters that go back even further..way back to the early Manga-Gaga days. Oh, and one end of the sword features a golden Tingle. Fantastic.

If you wanna see other stuff friends have drawn of my characters over the years, check here. Most of it is from the Manga-gaga era but if you haven't seen it already you gotta see Tuke's rendition of Dashinuke. =D

The Village Green Screening

Here's the "30ft inflatable" that Traffk screened on last night. I wasn't sure what Mike meant when he said that, maybe a balloon of some sort, but what it turned out to be was this bouncy castle screen type thing which was rather neat. They started screening at around 8pm, which by now point it was so dark you couldn't see anything BUT the screen, and pretty cold too. Still, it's the biggest most unusual screen one of my animations has been screened on to date, even if it was such a short film compared to most of the other stuff they showed.

The screen was on a field in Chalkwell Park and we were all sitting on deck chairs, of all things. It was definitely a different way of doing things. Traffk getting picked makes sense now as it featured footage and photos of Southend, and the general theme of a lot of the films showed was Southend, like archive footage of the sea front and Peter pan's Playground (now known as Adventure Island).

They also showed some neat animations like 'The Wrong Trainers', a collaboration made for Newsground about children in poverty, and Run Wrake's 'Rabbit', a personal; favorite of mine that I've seen screened at places like Norwich Festival a few times before and have yet to get bored of. I didn't hang around for the whole thing though, it was getting far too cold.

Oh, and I haven't got any photos of Traffk actually on the screen as I was filming it, although there wasn't really much point as it was...you know, really dark. I bumped into Tom, Phil and co, who I used to meet at a retro gaming event I use to go to monthly there who were filming the whole day of events, which was nice. Tom's footage was probably better than mine as he had a proper camcorder set up, so I'll get a link to that when he uploads it somewhere.

Traffk (and maybe others) @ Village Green on 27/9

Traffk seems to be my most popular film for getting screened, it seems! The Leigh Film Society guys have nabbed the film once again for a free festival at Chalkwell Park in Leigh this Saturday. The festival is a all day event but the screening will be sometime between 8-10pm. here's the most interesting bit: the "screen" will be a projection onto a 30ft inflatable of some sort! If they can they may also try to screen another one of my films, possibly even Lucy lolly, which would be getting it's 2nd screening since it was shown at my collage. Traffk however will be getting it's 3rd (or 4th, can't remember) screening, blimey! If you wanna pop down to the event, the details are below on those clickable brown poster thingys:

Thanks go to Mark Lowther who's set this whole screening deal up. Can't wait to see my name up in lights, or rather...on a giant balloon!

More pen-to-paper Farts

Been doodling quite a bit recently, thanks to that 100 themed images thingy on Deviantart. Here's two more...
David Dickinson. Why not? He has quite a tan.

Punchout! is probably one of the few NES games I truly care for (I'm more a Mega Drive fan myself), alongside Excite Bike and Balloon Fight. That and I just really wanted to draw Doc Louis. The colour job on this is pretty slap dash, I might go back and add to it at some point.

Podd the Creepy BBC Micro Thing

Today I decided to search on Youtube for videos of BBC Micro games, to see if any nostalgia floods back of playing the one they had at my junior school. As soon as I saw the thumbnail for "Podd", I instantly remembered it, but rather than rose tinted joy, I felt an old fear crawling back to the front of my brain. Here's the video in question:

The game basically involved typing a word to finish the sentence "Podd can..", and certain words will make him do said thing. It's all rather creepy, for some reason. He's limbs appear and disappear depending on the action, and just about any noise he makes is a high pitched beep. Possibly the most freaky is typing in "explode". I'm pretty sure I had a nightmare about this creature at one point. Anyway, for some reason upon being reminded of this horror, I decided to draw it AND colour it, which I'm now starting to regret.

Now I don't think I'll sleep tonight.

Oh, and the bird? It's from another BBC Micro game I remember a whole bunch of us playing and generally getting quite frustrated with: Grannies Garden. See a video of that here. IF YOU DARE.

Some doodling

Being doing a bit of doodling recently. More to be scanned soon.

Ever noticed how much dust and crumbs and junk are under the keys of your keyboard? I shake it into the bin every so often and all sorts drops out of it. I actually had a tiny spider crawl out from under the space bar while I was sitting by it once. How it didn't get crashed is beyond me.

I'm using one of those "Draw 100 things" things from Deviantart to motivate me a bit. This one was for "Zombies".

... Don't ask me.

Lucy Lolly DVD Boxart Design Revison

Made a few changes to the design, mainly for the text on the back cover, which is now more in the style of the kind of write ups you would get with B-Movies. I've also decided to add the Audio Show to the extra animations, because a lot of people seemed to like that one, so that's five short films for about £8 (roughly). Would really like to get this sorted by the end of this month, so I better get cracking!
